A note from the studio

I’m Roger.

For 35 years I’ve done one thing in a hundred different ways: find out what a business is actually about, then build the pieces that tell that story — websites, photography, identity, print.

The tools changed wildly along the way. The work didn’t. My job is to find your story and tell it in the clearest, most profitable way — so you never have to be the tech-support agent for your own brand. I believe in finished work and the last 10% that separates good enough from better.

Some call it storytelling. I’d rather paint it, compose it, forge it, build it, direct it — one eye, many instruments.

A creator, not a maker. Let’s tell your story.

What I do

One eye.Many instruments.

Photographing and making images are one practice, pointed in different directions — at people, at the city, at the work in the room — paired with the hand that builds the website or the printed piece. Right tool, right moment, one set of eyes.

Portraits, elevated.

Headshots and environmental portraits that do their job — then a Return to Classic tier in CCD and monochrome for the portrait no AI can fake. The everyday shot is the front door; the classic portrait is what people remember.

Events & documentary.

Conferences, nonprofit and corporate events, editorial work. Imagery you can hand to a board or a press release the same week. A large part of the practice — much of it under client wraps, shared with permission.

Photography

Portraits, elevated.

It starts with the portrait people already know me for — clean, honest headshots and environmental portraits. Then, when a moment deserves it, we slow down and make something classic: a CCD or monochrome portrait no AI image can fake.

Plus a full documentary and event practice — conferences, nonprofits, corporate. Much of it lives under client wraps and is shared with permission. Made, not generated.

The front door

Portraits & Headshots

Environmental portraits and headshots, on location or in studio. The image you hand to a board, a bio, or a press release — and the start of every conversation.

The signature

Return to Classic

Hasselblad CCD portraits and Leica Monochrom chiaroscuro — classic craft, more time, a result that looks like no one else’s. The look is the point.

Why it matters

Looking fine is the price of entry now.

The problem

Anyone can look fine now. What’s hard — and what actually moves a business — is standing for something specific. A website and a set of images that look like everyone else’s don’t just blend in; they cost you the authority your story deserves.

What I do about it

I find the one thing your business is actually about, then build the website, the photography, and the print that say it clearly. You get work that’s right the first time — and you never have to be a tech-support agent for your own brand.

Why hire Ridpath

Why hire Ridpath?

Four reasons clients keep coming back, translated from what I do into the business results you actually want.

The direction
Story First, Then Production

Work That Reads National

Plenty of good designers can place what you hand them. I find the story first, then direct every page and frame toward it. That’s the difference between a piece that reads local and one that holds its own on a national stage.

The range
Four Crafts, One Set of Eyes

An Agency in One Person

The person who produces a book of Kansas City photographs also designs typefaces sold around the world, art-directs magazines, and writes the code your website runs on. You get an agency’s range with one person’s consistency, and a single phone number.

The engine
Creative AI, Experience in Charge

Building What’s Next

A lot of creatives are afraid of AI, or just ignore it. Not here. Production is faster, and creativity has become bigger and bolder. Add 35 years of professional judgment, and everything explodes with energy.

The proof
A Short Client List, On Purpose

Clients Who Keep Coming Back

I work with a handful of clients at a time, and most of them have been around a long while. Some relationships go back twenty years and more. When somebody hires me, they call again.

Sounds like a (picture) perfect plan, Roger! Book it!

What’s Your Story? And Why It Matters.

A snowman lit up in May, the question every business has to answer in 2026, and what it means to have someone whose job is to focus on your story and tell it clearly.

The Difference Between a Headshot and a Portrait

A headshot identifies a face. A portrait tells you something about the person. The distinction matters more than most clients realize.

Questions, answered

Before you ask.

Do you build custom websites or use templates?

I build custom-coded sites — React and Supabase — that you own outright, not a template you rent on someone else’s platform. When a project genuinely fits Webflow, I’ll build it there and tell you why. Either way, the code and the content are yours to keep.

What does working with one creative director get me instead of an agency?

One set of eyes from the first call to the final file. No account managers, no hand-offs, no telephone game between a strategist, a designer, and a developer who never actually meet. You talk to the person doing the work — 35 years of it.

Do you work with clients outside Kansas City?

Kansas City is home, and most of the photography is local. But the web, brand, and print work travels — I take remote engagements across the country. The camera needs me in the room; the code doesn’t.

What is a Return to Classic portrait?

A one-of-a-kind portrait made on Hasselblad CCD or Leica Monochrom — classic craft and a film-like rendering no AI image can fake. The everyday headshot is the front door; the classic portrait is the one people remember. Made, not generated.

What do your services cost?

Photography is published with real ranges: individual headshots $350–$500, on-site corporate headshots $200–$350 per person, half-day event coverage $1,500–$2,500, full-day $3,000–$5,000. Websites, brand systems, and print are scoped per project — tell me what you’re building and I’ll give you a straight number.

How fast is turnaround?

Event galleries arrive the same week, with next-day highlight selects on request. Web and design timelines depend on scope, but you’ll have a clear schedule before we start — and I finish what I start.

What kind of work isn’t a fit?

I’m selective by design. I don’t shoot weddings or sports, and I’m not the right call for the cheapest, fastest, template-driven job. If you want work that’s right the first time and stands for something specific, that’s the work I do.

What’s your story?

Let’s fill it.

Tell me what you’re working on. I read every message and reply personally — usually within a business day.
